Manitowish Waters Trail
This paved trail links the Community Center grounds at US Hwy 51 & Airport Road to the trails of the North Lakeland Discovery Center. Travel along Hwy W and spend time at Rest Lake and Koller Parks. Restrooms, water, benches and a playground are located at the Manitowish Waters Community Center.Length:15.7 miles Location:Parking available at the Manitowish Waters Community Center, Koller Park, Rest Lake Park and the North Lakeland Discovery Center. North Lakeland Discovery Center Trails
Serene and secluded biking/hiking/skiing trails around Statehouse Lake and along the Manitowish River. Easy/beginner and intermediate loops wind through new growth and old forest, and along bog and shoreline. The Bill Lambrecht Memorial Interpretive Trail and bog boardwalk are also open for exploration. Parking, trail info and warming house at the Discovery Center. This system connects to the Manitowish Waters Trail.Length:12 miles Location:From the intersection of Hwy 51 and County Hwy W in Manitowish Waters, continue north on County Hwy W approximately 1.5 miles to the North Lakeland Discovery Center. North Lakeland Elementary School Nature/Cross-Country Ski Trail System
These trails are located on the grounds of North Lakeland School and wind through a variety of towering evergreens and hardwoods. Overall easy level of difficulty with a few dips and small slopes. During the winter, the trails are groomed, as volunteers are available, by the North Lakeland/Northwoods Ski Touring Association.Length:8-10 miles of looping trails Location:Trailhead may be accessed from the north side of the school’s football field. From the intersection of County Hwy K and Papoose Lake Road (west of the school), continue north on Papoose Lake Road approximately 1 mile to a parking area. Click here for a printable map (pdf).
Passing by Spring Pond and Sherman Lake, this scenic, easy/beginner trail winds through an area logged off some years ago as well as through an area of older timber types. Check with the North Lakeland Discovery Center regarding grooming, as volunteer cross-country ski grooming is reviewed annually. Check with the center regarding leashed pets on the trail.Length:Trail loops range in length from 1.5, 2.0, 4.5 and 7 miles. Location:From the intersection of Airport Road and Hwy 51 in Manitowish Waters, turn south on Hwy 51 to Powell Road (about .25 miles). Turn west onto Powell Road and continue about 6.5 miles to the parking area. From Lac du Flambeau, continue north on Hwy 47 about 8 miles to Powell Road. Located near the North Lakeland Discovery Center on more than 1,300 acres of private and public lands, this network of silent-sports trails offers opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, snowshoeing and classic- and skate-style cross-country skiing. In winter, these trails intersect with snowmobile trails.Length:2 miles developed single-track mountain bike trails; 7 miles of skate and classic ski trails; 1 mile flagged for snowshoeing.
