January 9, 2014
Daytime highs ranging from upper 20’s to low 30’s through the weekend along with snow showers and/or wintery mix.
Vilas County snowmobile clubs are rating their trails in generally good condition as the artic cold has kept the trails solid without much snowfall. Scattered icy corners and rough spots (limited grooming due to recent artic cold) so riders need to be watchful at all times, slow down and stay on the trails as marked. Lake trails, if open, report rough areas so please stay off the lakes until a route has been clearly marked. Keep warm and safe while you enjoy the trails.

Cross-Country Ski Trails:
Light snow before the artic cold had groomers working hard. Area trails such as the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest, Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest, Nordmarka-fresh groomed skate surface and classic track reset; Three Eagle; Razorback Ridges; Phelps-classic ski only; Afterglow-solid classic tracks and skate lanes – snowshoe trail; and Minocqua Winter Park-all trails groomed reported in very good to excellent condition with firm bases and more than 10″-12″ of snow in the woods. Anticipate some drifting and windblown debris on trails.
