Festive Vilas County events
Published: November 2, 2017The good times never stop in Vilas County; our communities know how to enjoy every season and there’s always something fun to enjoy. On any given weekend, you’ll find family-friendly events, relaxing activities perfect for couples and active events aimed at people who love experiencing the outdoors. This time of year, we also have a festive mix of holiday events. Here’s a sample of what’s happening this season.
Family-friendly
As the New Year approaches, Vilas County communities have plenty of activities that are fun for the whole family. From Dec. 26-Dec. 31, Marvel in Manitowish Waters offers a variety of free or low-cost indoor and outdoor activities. Scheduled activities include classic, skate ski and snowshoe activities, crafting workshops, horse-drawn sleigh rides, a family play day, winter recreation demos and a New Year’s Eve celebration, complete with fireworks.
Outdoor adventures
There are numerous community events aimed at people who love the outdoors. On our events calendar, you’ll find ice fishing tournaments, pond hockey tournaments, snowmobile races and more. Starting Dec. 21, conditions permitting, the Sno-Eagles are scheduled to begin their annual guided trail rides. Every Wednesday and Thursday morning, this club ride leaves The Old Train Depot, 116 S. Railroad St., Eagle River. All are welcome to join the ride and explore the trails around Eagle River.
Festive fun
There are a lot of festive holiday events happening in Vilas County, including tree lightings, visits with Santa, holiday home tours and more. Boulder Junction is the site of some festive events later this month. On Nov. 24, it will host its annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Boulder Junction Community Center and a Christmas Walk, complete with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, in downtown Boulder Junction. On Nov. 25, there will also be a Christmas Walk Kids Day in Boulder Junction. There is a lot happening in Vilas County the weekend after Thanksgiving – look for more holiday fun in Land O’ Lakes, the Minocqua area, St. Germain, Eagle River and Sayner-Star Lake.
