Fun summer events in Vilas County

Published: June 21, 2022

Vilas County’s summer calendar is filled with events of all kinds, from waterski shows to community festivals to live music and more. Here’s a look at a few events you shouldn’t miss throughout the rest of the summer in northern Wisconsin.

Northwoods Art Tour, various communities, July 22-24

This Northwoods tradition allows art lovers to visit some of the Northwoods’ top artists at their studios and see how they work. Nearly 40 artists—working in fields from sculpture to mixed media to jewelry—will open their doors to the public in dozens of locations in Vilas, Oneida, Iron, Langlade, and Lincoln counties throughout the weekend. See more information, including maps and artist information, here.

Northwoods Blues Fest, St. Germain, July 30

St. Germain has been bringing great blues music (not to mention tasty food like Memphis ribs) to the Northwoods for more than 20 years with this fun festival, which returns this summer for its 22nd iteration. In addition to live music and food, the event also features beer, raffles, and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit Northland Pines youth sports and scholarships. Find more info here.

Sayner Street Fair, August 7

The Sayner Street Fair returns to Sayner this August with a 5K run/walk, an arts & crafts fair, live music from 11am to 4pm, a hands-on Touch-A-Truck Show sponsored by the Plum Lake Fire Department, kids’ activities and more. See more information here.

Vilas County Fair, Eagle River, August 11-14

Live music, kids’ games, midway rides and more—you’ll find it all at the Vilas County Fair, held at the fairgrounds in Eagle River. This free fair (there is no charge to get in the gate, but parking is available adjacent to the fairgrounds for $5) dates to 1916 and offers many agricultural and animal exhibits in addition to the live entertainment, food, and rides. 65th Annual Musky Jamboree, Boulder Junction, August 12-14

Head to Boulder Junction—the Musky Capital of the World—for three days of Northwoods excitement at this community festival that’s fit for all ages. True to the name, there are some musky-related events like a Learn to Fish Musky Workshop, a Kids’ Casting Contest and a chance to meet the area’s fishing guides, but there’s also a lot more, including live music all weekend, a car show, an arts & crafts show featuring more than 100 artists, and much more. Find more details here.

Paul Bunyan Fest, Eagle River, August 17

Celebrate the Northwoods at this fun family event in downtown Eagle River that features chainsaw carving demonstrations, live music, more than 75 arts and crafts vendors, and a Paul Bunyan-sized beef sandwich luncheon. Eagle River’s downtown businesses will also be offering sidewalk sales. Find more information here.
