People who like to sleep under the stars will find a range of camping options, from county-owned land to state and national forests. There are a wide variety of campgrounds in Vilas County, including backcountry wilderness campsites and campgrounds with a full range of amenities, from single sites to larger areas with more than 75 sites. In addition to several canoe camping sites along the Wisconsin River, Vilas County has recently developed and enhanced these camping areas.
Tamarack Springs Campground
Northwest of Conover, Tamarack Springs Campground is located along Tamarack Creek. There are (9) sites spread along both sides of the creek and a campground host. The Campground has close access to area ATV/UTV routes/trails.
River Road Equestrian Campground
Just southwest of Conover, this Campground has six (6) sites sized to accommodate equestrian trailers and are for independent camping units only. The Campground is located at the trailhead of the Torch Lake equestrian loop, which provides access to over 16 miles of marked equestrian riding over three looping trails.
Torch Lake Campground and RV Park
Anticipated opening date is August 23, 2017! The first phase of the Torch Lake Campground and RV Park offers 21 campsites (sized with extra space for large rigs) including a campground host and an ADA-approved campsite. All sites will have a picnic table, grill and fire ring along with access to water and electric (30 amp with 50amp available at some sites). The Campground will also offer a 4 unit vault toilet building and a dump station area with associated utilities. There is a walking path to Torch Lake which offers picnic tables and grills as well as a beach area (no lifeguard). For a full list of campground rules, click here. Reserve your campsite now!
