Sitting along the shores of North Twin Lake in Vilas County, the town of Phelps offers visitors to the Northwoods of Wisconsin a wide array of activities. Let’s take a look at a few of them:

  • Fishing. From North Twin Lake to Lac Vieux Desert and Big Sand Lake, anglers can find great fishing opportunities for walleye and musky. A number of lakes in the area have boat launches for getting your craft out on the water.
  • Visiting the Nicolet National Forest. Phelps is located within this 650,000-acre national forest, which offers great camping, fishing, hiking and hunting to visitors. The forest also contains five designated wilderness areas, including the 5,800-acre Blackjack Springs Wilderness Area and its series of four large, crystal-clear springs forming the headwaters of Blackjack Creek.
  • Hitting the links. Visitors to Phelps can enjoy a round of golf at Big Sand Lake Golf Course, which has been serving Northwoods golfers for nearly 90 years. Take in the beautiful scenery as you hit the links and greens.
